Hello, VardoFriends.   A pleasant good morning to you and yours.  Now that we have that phoniness out of the way, let’s review the following important message from our friend Mike Clayton:

Kecia or George: Please forward to the Vardos ASAP.  Thanks!

It sounds like the weather is going bad on us for the FFR tomorrow.  Exactly what kind of precip we'll get is still up in the air (Sorry, pre-7AM joke).  Let's plan on making the decision to run or not at the Elks at 9AM tomorrow.  If we it's not conducive to running, we can still eat pancakes!

Mike

Attention Ames Are Running Club and Team Vardos!  The December Frozen Foot Run is This Saturday!

This has become a tradition for the kick-off of the Frozen Foot Run season.  Come for a social run with the best, pig out on pancakes, and support the Boy Scouts this Saturday (December 1st).  Meet in front of the Elks Lodge at 522 Douglas at 9:00 AM.

Two routes have been laid out with the hungry pancake eater in mind.  Choose between 3.25 and 6.6 mile routes.  (View the routes at  http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=179957 and http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=179955 respectively.  (Both routes are negotiable by those in attendance.)  Afterwards, gorge yourself on all the pancakes you can eat for 5 bucks.  Bring your family and friends!

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Kecia, please forward this email to the Vardo list.  Thanks!

Subject: I am throwing myself a party

Hi there George,

I have decided to throw a party on Saturday.  The theme of the party will be

"me".  Could you please pass along the following message?

Thank you,

Mx2

------------------

Big XII Championship Football / Mike’s 30th Birthday Barbeque Bowl Bash

Hi all, sorry for the late notice, but I haven’t exactly been looking

forward to this day.  Nonetheless, here it is.  I turn 30 on Saturday.  Who

decided that?  It’s preposterous.

Like planets coming into alignment, it just so happens that Mizzou is going

to be playing in the Big XII Championship game that very evening.  They are

currently ranked #1 in the nation – that hasn’t happened since Pocahontas

stormed the Bastille, I think.  If they win, they get to go to the national

championship in January.  Talk about once in a blue moon…

Anyway, in honor of the day’s events I am going to throw a:

little party at Chez Mike, 2408 Hayes Avenue

Saturday, December 1, 7pm – close

I will grill up some meat and kebabs, supply lots of beer and pop and cake,

and holler obscenities at the tee-vee.  Ping pong will be available in the

garage and drums are in the basement.  You will be entertained, or my name

isn’t Harry Crabtree.

Grill lights at 6:30pm, kickoff is at 7pm.  Plan on around 7:30pm for main

course grill items, but certainly appetizers will be ready prior to that.

Cake and ice cream at halftime.

If you’d like to swing by, please let me know soon so I can plan for

numbers.  No need to bring anything – we’ll have plenty of food.  Everyone

is welcome.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Hope to see you there!

mm

PS: Wear nice socks, because my house is a “no-shoes” zone.  This stems from

my childhood in Missouri, where nobody owned shoes.  The dirt floors made it

easy on the feet though.

PPS: More Vardos in the news:

It was the pants that gave him strength.

And Now For Something Completely Different: A Fine Short Film From Noted Comedienne/Marathoner Danielle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-hCuYjvw2I A Message From Noted RCC Run in the Woods Runner Danielle “We did the RCC Run the Woods 4 mile trail race on Saturday. Mike came in first in his age group and brought home some more bling (it must get old placing in so many races!). I just came in muddy. Mike also came in first getting in line for the post-race beef stew (I was on his heels at a close second). The race was sponsored by the Iowa Cattlemen's Association or something like that - there were poems about beef along the course. Beef! It's what's for runners!” -Danielle A Team Vardo Guide to Today’s City Council Election Ward 2 Candidates: Larson

Analysis: Larson is supposedly unopposed. Unless you suppose you’re not opposed to the smell of a black Sharpie writing in “Mike Mullins”. Prediction: Mullins, in a fartlek. Ward 4 Candidates: Bock, Mahayni Analysis: Good lord, this sounds like dinner at the West Town Pub: “I’ll have the grilled mahayni, with a Bock Lite.” Prediction: Saucy Southerner, baked beans, and a Diet Coke. At-Large Candidates: Brown, Goodman Analysis: Good gravy. I mean, gyro. Sharpen the Sharpie again and write in the Other Goodman. As in “Kecia The Goodman”. Prediction: Goodman (The) Mayor Candidates: None Analysis: I guess Mayor ain’t up for grabs this year.

Solution: Make a little box on the ballot, and write “Mayor” next to it. Put a check mark in the box, and write “John Moran” next to the box. Logic: Would not John Moran make a fine mayor for Ames? Answer: Yes, he would. “Mayor Moran” fits that cat like a glove. Caution: Do not write “John Moran – Story City” for obvious reasons. Prediction: Breaker Moran Group Runs / Activities This Week Tuesday: 5:30 PM Group Run – Vardaman Center for the Performing Arts Wednesday: Friends, today is William Q. Hello,

Monday 11.5.07, let's meet at ISU XC for 1, 2, or 3 laps around the outside
loop. 5:30pm, dress warm because it'll be cold and windy. And dark. Yuck.

I'd say let's meet somewhere else but all our other options have too many
stumble points at dusk.

Have a fine one, sorry for the late notice -- been in damn meetings all
morning long. Good thing I was wasted.
