We must do the right thing, and help Natalie of the North before she spirals
into her usual pattern of illegal activities to combat "cabin fever."

Thus: An emergency group run will be held at 5:30 PM tonight at the
Vardaman Center for the Performing Arts. Your attendance is invited and
encouraged.

RE:       An Important Message From The Other Jeff

Many of you are running the Rosy Cheeks 5k.  If you want to run extra miles afterwards, feel free - or just gorge yourself on pancakes.

For those of you not running it, I will host the Frosty Face almost 6 miler in
Ames.  It will be just like the Rosy cheeks except that it won't be a race, there will be no pancakes, and it will be earlier.  So I guess it's nothing like the Rosy cheeks run.

We will start at the community center at 7 for those wanting a long run (they can do the loop twice.)
8:00 start for the six milers.  As you will see you can even do a short 3 miler by just doing the first half.

If anyone wants to do 16 as stated in the calendar, you can add as you like or even do one of the loops again to add 3-4  miles.

I will be starting at
8:00 with the 6 milers but will be present around 7:35ish in the parking ot with my red tracker to provide drinks for those 12 milers wrapping up the first half.

Here's the link:

Let me know if you have any questions.

George,

Sorry we didn't say this before, Jeff and I switched places as routemaster.  I did it for him 2 weeks ago, and he was going to take it this week for me. :)

I had to wrestle a lion, but I passed.  The meetup will be at
Dublin Bay at 8pm for those interested.  We'll try to take over the bar area.  Dinner if you want it (I will be eating), drinks if you need it (I do).  We may very well progress onwards from there.  Mothers hide your children -- tis party time.

A timely message from Vardo Tim Gartin -

For those interested in watching some indoor track and field, a couple of good opportunities at ISU are coming up. This weekend, the ISU Open will take place at the Vardaman-Lied Center. This is for non-Division I schools. On February 15-16, ISU hosts the ISU Classic. This is for Division I schools. The ISU Classic is a very big meet and will provide the chance to see some fantastic performances. For more information about the meets, including a schedule of events and prior results, go to:

P.S. There is bit of a rumor floating out there as to whether Team Vardo will attempt to crash the ISU Classic under the guise of University of Vardo. Presumably a hoax . . . Julie, how many pairs of spikes did you want me to line up?

The start time will be 7:15am for 12 milers and 8:30am for 5 milers.  We

will start from McDonalds on South Duff.  The water stop for the 7 mile loop

will be at the old middle school on state.  Both routes have numerous

options for different distances or if the surface conditions warrant change.

Sorry For The Delay

The VardoGram is a bit late this morning because my maintenance men (Mary Beth SklaDelaney & Karen Klotzenbauer) didn’t get me scooped out fast enough to make the 8 AM press deadline.  There will be a good spanking for both of them later today.  Film at ten, Channel 8.

And Now:  A Message From Johnny Orr

“Woo-eee, Coach – nineteen below!  Hey, Art – have that damned penguin throw me another one of them Klondike bars.”

The Group Run This Evening

I would like to suggest a route to the Memorial Union, a brief warm up inside, a drink of water, urinate (if necessary) and a return to the Vardaman Center.  That’s damn near four miles, close enough for USDA work. Discuss.

Saturday Route / Rosy Cheeks
at

From Professor T. Diddy:

Here is the route for Saturday:

http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=188349

The Vardo Route of Fun will commence at Hy-Vee WEST and go in a big, asphalt and concrete loop all the way back to Hy-Vee West.  7.19 miles, 14'ers can do 2 loops.  I'll have drinks and schtick in my car, or people can choose to use the Hy-Vee deli after the run.  Professor Thomas D. Schultz

(Editor’s Note – A word of caution:  Mr. Skla-Delaney is still on probation for offering drinks and schtick from his car to some innocent Beta Sigma Phi’s . . .)

From The Mayor of  (North East) Story City:

If anyone who is interested would like to help at Rosy Cheeks on the 2nd we could still use volunteers.  They get the prestigious Rosy Cheeks t-shirt and pancakes all without having to run.  If anyone is interested, they can email me or catch me on one of the runs before the 2nd.   John Moran  jrmoran@iowatelecom.net

Tom Schultz will be subbing for me as route master this Saturday (1/19).  All problems and accidents will therefore fall directly on his shoulders.

2)  Here's the info on the Madison Marathon:

May 25th (Sunday run) - good course - around the lakes and campus in
Madison.  I have started my early training and kick into the heavy prep on Feb. 15th.  The "world's largest Brat cookout" is after the event at the place where runners park and bus to the start and finish line.  If anyone wants to do something different and this sounds good, let me know.  I'm doing it regardless.   Jeff Margrett

A fine message from one of the Founding Uncles of Team Vardo, the Mayor of (North East) Story City, the Ruler of Rosy Cheeks, John Moran:

(Question of The Day (QTD) – Is there a group run tomorrow morning? The Training Calendar says that the RouteMaster is Bishop Sacco. But perhaps he is still recovering from the crowning of ObamaRama and Huckleberry Hound?)

Dear Uncle George,

Would you please inform the masses that the Rosy Cheeks registrations are finally in the mail today.  The race is Feb.2.  If those interested don’t receive one in the mail by the middle of next week, there will be some available at the rec office in Ames at City Hall.  If they can’t find any, they can contact me.

I think I will start running again tomorrow morning.  Maybe see you there.

Thanks
