6 Mile Route

4 Mile Route:  Begin at the Vardo-Klotzbach Home for the Marginally Coherent; east to Crawford; north to East 9th St.; east to Maxwell; North to 20th St.; west to Roosevelt; south to 9th St.; east to Clark; South to 5th St.; west to the point of beginning    Graphic depiction:  www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=319856

8 Mile Route:  Do the 4 mile route twice.

10 Mile Route:  Run the 4 mile route first, then the 6 mile route; or, if you are left-handed, run the 6 mile route first then the 4 mile trek.

Since it will be relatively cool tomorrow, there will be no water or Gatorade out on either route segment.  However, those fluids, or reasonable facsimiles thereof, will be found in coolers located near the front door of the Ironman Mike Mullins Hall of Fame.

Finally, a special prize will be awarded to the first Vardo who can tell me whether Arthur Miller was before or after Joe DiMaggio in Marilyn Monroe's lineup of husbands.     Regards,    The Other Bill

A Moment Of Inspiration With Father Fencl

"My friend Chris is a cross country coach at East High in Des Moines and is in dire need of running shoes for his athletes. I know that many of you make donations of old shoes to other organizations in and around Ames, but thought I could ask you all anyway. Many of the student athletes at East High are less fortunate than students at other Des Moines schools, thus the reason for the request. Please contact me if you are interested in contributing. I would take care of the transportation of donated shoes."   Tim Fencl

Inglourius Basterds!  A Team Vardo Cooler Has Been Stolen!

Notes from the report filed by Officer Natalie:

"It was the Team Vardo blue cooler with the white lid that was missing Saturday morning from the State Street trail entrance.  Of course, they did leave all the trash! An APB has been issued to have everyone tailgating next Thursday to keep their eyes open.  I am not sure of the writing on it, but it does say "Team Vardo."  Maybe Officer Jan Schmidt will warn the other fine officers of Ames that if they see any Vardos trying to take away anyone's beer, it might be because it is in the Vardo cooler.  Of course, we too would leave the thieves with their trash."     Natalie of the North
