Saturday's Vardo Route - 1-31-09
at

A fine treat from Mr. John Q. Glover.  Behold:

H
ere is the route for Saturday and information:

By way of email introduction, I look forward to FINALLY meeting many of you this Saturday for our five-miler, beginning at West HyVee. Since it is a rather large parking lot - and it is my understanding that Vardos get lost fairly easy - let's park in the east end of the lot and start from there (that would be nearest to Wallabys - I suspect Sacco will just roll out of the bar to join us for the run so it should be convenient for him).

(Editor's Note:  A photo of Bishop Sacco has been attached for reference / identification purposes. Please do not park on Bishop Sacco.)

Start time is 8am and here is the route:

I failed to mark a water stop, however a good location, if water is needed, would be the Molecular Biology Building along Pammel Road on campus. While there, you can pitch in on some cutting-edge research experiments going on before resuming your run.

As you can see, it is a fairly uneventful loop, however it does have hills, up and down. I will have water available at the end of the run ... or feel free to hit the breakfast buffet or coffee shop in HyVee when you are finished.

Thanks!  John

Saturday's Route

We interrupt your morning coffee break with an important public service message from Diesel Dave. Behold: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=267618

I'm the Vardo route master for this Saturday, January 24th. I've peeked at the weather, and it looks like we might be getting a tad bit cold by Saturday. So my route has some flexibility to it. We'll start it from Vardo Coliseum (ie Old State Gym).

We're scheduled for 4 miles and 8 miles. We'll begin at 8am. The outdoor route will start down Sheldon, past the Design Center, to Cemetery Hill, down the hill to Hyland, right on Hyland, up to Ross Road. Take Ross Rd down to Garfield, then over to Ontario. Ontario back to Stange Rd, back towards campus and then end up back at State Gym. For those brave souls who want 8, take the loop twice (2 *4=8). For the other brave souls who want to run inside, we can run laps inside Vardo Coliseum.

Enjoy.

Check out this lovely message from Ronn-O-Matic down at our favorite bikin' / runnin' / ski'in' store:

"George: a runner came in today to get some nutritional stuff. He runs indoors  on a treadmill now because of a dislocated shoulder. Could you please add rohan@iastate.edu  to the runner list?  His name is Rohan Fernando and he teaches in animal science--maybe he can hook Team Vardo up with a dead cow or horse for a barbeque."  Ronn Ritz - Skunk River Cycles
